About Fabian Thompson, M.D.
I am a collaborative and thoughtful psychiatrist dedicated to providing comprehensive, evidence-based and culturally informed care. My approach to treatment focuses on the whole person, integrating individualized psychopharmacologic management with varied psychotherapy modalities to support my patients' recovery, empowerment and overall well-being. Having completed my residency training here at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine, I was drawn to continue my career at NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester Behavioral Health because of the deeply supportive, multidisciplinary culture and our shared commitment to patient-centered care. For me, the most rewarding aspect of outpatient psychiatry is building longitudinal relationships with my patients and helping them navigate their mental health journeys toward meaningful, lasting improvement.
Dr. Fabian Thompson is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Weill Cornell Medicine and an Assistant Attending Psychiatrist at NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester Behavioral Health. He received his Bachelor of Science in Biology, magna cum laude, from SUNY Geneseo, and his medical degree from the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Thompson completed his psychiatry residency at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine, where he developed extensive expertise in the longitudinal treatment of diverse patient populations.
Dr. Thompson's clinical practice encompasses general adult outpatient psychiatry, specializing in comprehensive medication management across mood, anxiety, personality and psychotic disorders. He delivers integrated care that combines advanced psychopharmacology with multiple therapeutic modalities, including psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). His ongoing research examines how real-time access to electronic medical records impacts patient experience and the therapeutic alliance within inpatient settings.
